Brazil Visitor Visa (VIVIS) Checklist

Note: Citizens of some countries (e.g., EU, UK, Japan) may not need a visa for short visits. As of 2025, U.S., Canada, and Australia citizens must apply for a visitor visa — always check with the official consulate website.

 1. Visa Application Form

• Complete the online visa application form at:
   https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br

• Print the confirmation page with barcode and sign it

 2. Passport

• Valid for at least 6 months from entry date

• At least 2 blank visa pages

• Copy of passport bio page

 3. Photograph

• One recent passport-sized photo (white background, front-facing, 3.5x4.5 cm)

• Upload digitally and also provide a printed version

 4. Travel Itinerary

• Round-trip flight booking or reservation

• Approximate travel plan or itinerary (not mandatory but recommended)

 5. Proof of Accommodation

• Hotel reservations

• Invitation letter from a host in Brazil (if staying with family/friends), including:

  • Full name, ID copy, address, and contact info

  • Duration and purpose of stay

  • Host’s signature

  • Copy of host’s Brazilian ID (RG) or residency document

 6. Proof of Financial Means

• Bank statements (last 3 months)

• OR proof of income/employment

• OR sponsorship letter if someone else is funding your trip

 7. Proof of Legal Stay (If Applying from a Third Country)

• If you're not applying from your home country, include visa/residence permit for the country where you're currently residing

 8. Visa Fee

• Varies by nationality:

  • USA: ~$80

  • Canada: ~$100

  • Australia: ~$120

• Pay at the consulate or via online banking as directed by the Brazilian consulate/embassy

• Include proof of payment

 9. Additional Documents (if applicable)

• Letter from employer or school (for business/study/short visit justification)

• Minors: Travel authorization signed by both parents + birth certificate (translated and notarized)

 10. Submission Method

• Submit application and documents:

  • In-person or by post to your nearest Brazilian Consulate

  • Some consulates require an appointment

• Check your consulate’s website for local rules

 Processing Time

• Typically 5 to 15 business days, depending on the consulate
